Restoring the Atmosphere

You may have heard that the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is a major problem. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide and methane generated by biological processes and the burning of fossil fuel such as petroleum. Because greenhouse gases are invisible and odorless, however, it can be difficult to grasp the scale of the problem they pose.

If we could restore the atmosphere to a healthier state – much like restoring a damaged work of art – the future might look very different.

One of the leaders showing us that path through research grounded in measurement data is Professor Robert B. Jackson.

Professor Jackson has sought to discover ways to reduce emissions by visualizing greenhouse gases, from the movement of carbon in plants and soils to leaks from natural gas used in homes and restaurants. Today, he is deeply committed to the idea of "atmospheric restoration" – restoring the atmosphere to a healthier state.
