Turning past disasters into future disaster preparedness

Our world is constantly under threat from a wide range of disasters, including floods, storms, landslides, droughts, wildfires, and earthquakes. How can we harness the lessons learned from past disasters to prepare for future ones and mitigate their impact?

Based on this idea, Professor Debarati Guha-Sapir created the world’s first major global disaster database, Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT). This database has become an indispensable scientific base for climate disaster risk reduction and mitigation efforts by various international institutions and national governments.
