Does economic growth make people happier?

What does the word “economy” bring to mind? You might imagine that it has to do with the buying and selling of goods and services in our society. In general, the more that products and services we want or need are offered, bought, and sold, the greater the amount of money that circulates among people. This activity increases the wealth of that society. We call this “economic growth.”

Do you think that the more an economy grows, the better our lives become? Many people may think that earning more and having more products and services to choose from make our lives better. But, is this true?
Professor Herman Daly had doubts about this. He, an ecological economist, incorporated the environment, local communities, and ethics into economic theory. Before Professor Daly, economic theory had a strong tendency to focus on money. He thought about what type of economy would make people happy. This led him to develop important theories that would become the foundation of sustainable societies coexisting with nature.
