Bhutan is widely known as the land of happiness because the country's foundation for building its nation is based on the idea of Gross National Happiness (GNH), which places the happiness of its citizens at the center of development activities and planning.
It was His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan, who put forward this idea. His Majesty prioritized the happiness of the people and aimed to improve their quality of life while preserving the country's rich nature, traditions, and culture. This led to unprecedented growth and innovation.

The philosophy of GNH prioritizes environmental preservation by gauging the wealth of the country not based on the speed of economic growth, but on the level of people's happiness. The GNH philosophy has had a significant influence on the world as well as on Bhutan, by advocating sustainable development.
