To support the ever-increasing population, food production must continue to increase. Humankind has expanded the area of irrigated farmland and improved food productivity. However, the area of land on earth is limited, and a drastic expansion of the land for grain production is unlikely.	増加し続ける人口を支えるためには、食料生産も増加させ続けなければならない。これまで人類は灌漑耕地面積を増やして、食料生産性を向上させてきた。しかし、地球上の土地は有限であり、穀物生産地面積の増加は今後大幅には望めない。
